SOMA owner, Jean-Pierre Parent has studied yoga and meditation since he found a Bhagavad Gita in a park at ten years old.
He approached us to reimagine the SOMA brand and, if you've ever tasted this line of products, the juice was definitely worth the squeeze. He envisioned sharing the facts of SOMA’s probiotic-packed Kombucha and Jun recipes in a way that would inspire a healthy lifestyle in diverse audiences.
Branding studies considered the ancient science of fermentation. The typography was inspired by the chemical reaction of microorganisms creating effervescent bubbles.
We juxtaposed vibrant label colors with the natural juice color and organic hand drawn typography and illustrations. The result: a dynamic palette and bold system true to the individual flavor offerings.
A unique mudra icon and character name was developed for each flavor as a nod back to JP’s yoga roots and practice. Gold foils were subtly employed throughout packaging design - honoring the love, magic & wisdom that goes into each bottle.
SOMA has millions of times more naturally occurring probiotics and nutrients than any other brand. It's also the only naturally carbonated and naturally sweet Kombucha. So, the illustrations and packaging focus on the flavor and refreshment. The rest of the magic happens inside the body and will make you a lifetime advocate of this impassioned brand.
We conceptualized an expressive modern aesthetic, balanced with the welcoming, humble roots of the company. We paired hand drawn illustrations with a crisp, exact custom typeface, leveraged a range of mediums, balancing handcraft and digital design. The result was a visual experience that captured the elegance, story, and whimsy of SOMA.
